Sentinel-1 and 2 imagery is used here to emphasise the difference between the radar and optical images the satellites provide. Kansai International Airport, Osaka, Japan11 January 2018 - The Kansai International Airport of Osaka, Japan is featured in this Sentinel comparison. In this image comparison, the airport is shown using the Sentinel-1 and -2 satellites to emphasise the difference between the radar and optical imagery the Sentinels provide. Venice, Italy21 December 2017 - This Sentinel image comparison features Venice, the famous "City of Bridges" in Italy. The comparison uses Sentinel-1 and -2 images to highlight the different applications the Copernicus Sentinels provide for urban monitoring. Montecito Fires, California18 December 2017 - A large forest fire is raging in Montecito County in California. Known as the Thomas Fire, it has affected more than a thousand buildings and firefighters are working to extinguish the flames. Natural and false-colour Landsat 8 imagery was used to compare the area before and after the fires began; demonstrating the scale of the fire in the first week of December. Monfalcone, Italy01 December 2017 - These Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2 images show Monfalcone in Italy, to commemorate the launch of the Seaside, the largest Italian cruise ship ever built. The vessel was launched on 29 November, and these images show the Seaside and its sister ship in drydock at Monfalcone in different resolutions. Marseille, France23 November 2017 - Marseille, the capital city of Bouches-du-Rhône department, is pictured in this Landsat image comparison. Havana, Cuba22 Sept 2017 - This Landsat-5 and -8 image comparison focuses on the capital city of Cuba, Havana and the Landsat-8 image acquired in 2017 demonstrates that Havana has not changed significantly since 1998. Fires in Majella National Park, Italy14 September 2017 - Wildfires have been burning in Majella National Park, Italy, since 20 August. Sentinel-2 was used to view the situation before and after the fires started, using false colour imagery to show the area affected by the fires. Amalfi Coast fires in Italy31 August 2017 - Wildfires continue to burn on the Amalfi coast in Italy, affecting a large area for two months now. These Sentinel-2 and Landsat 8 image comparisons provide an overview of the current situation. Shrinking lake Mar Chiquita24 August 2017 - This Landsat comparison focuses on the Mar Chiquita salt lake in Argentina. The lake has slowly been shrinking due to a combination of evaporation and land elevation, and these images acquired by Landsat 7 and 8 show the changing size since 1999.
