This weeks image comparison takes us over the Cape Town, South Africa. Located between the ocean and the mountains, Cape Town is the capital of the Western Cape Province, one of the provinces of South Africa. Considered the most touristic and oldest in South Africa, Cape Town is considered one of the most beautiful cities on Earth. A cosmopolitan capital, it has a unique architectural heritage that bears witness to its varied colonial past. Located on the Cape Peninsula, it overlooks Table Bay (Atlantic Ocean), at the foot of Table Mountain. The city center, called the City Bowl, is located in a depression in the midst of numerous reliefs, and looks like a fusion of buildings of different styles and periods, in which modern skyscrapers and shopping malls were superimposed on Dutch colonial influences. Cape Town is the largest commercial center in the country, home to mechanical plants (assembly of cars, railway equipment), shipbuilding, chemicals, petrochemicals, food, textiles, clothing. The comparision imagery of Sentinel-2 and Landsat-5 are processed in natural color (Bands 4,3,2 & 3,2,1), the aim is to highlight the urban development over the 19 years between these images being captured.
