Thousands of people were affected on the islands by days of heavy rain and flood damage. ![]() Typhoon Durian (Philippines) - December 2006It is estimated that a thousand people died in the Philippines when Typhoon Durian struck in November and December 2006. Tends of thousands of people were affected by the damage to houses and infrastructure as well as mudslides caused by heavy rain. ![]() Hurricane Paul (Mexico) - October 2006Thousands of homes were damaged by flooding and 20,000 people evacuated when Hurricane Paul struck Mexico in October 2006. Many towns suffered heavy damage, with some experiencing the almost total destruction of their homes. The map shows the latest JTWC forecast positions for the current Tropical Storm/Typhoon in the West Pacific. ![]() Cyclone Clare (Australia) - January 2006Parts of Australia suffered minor damage from Cyclone Clare in January 2006. The storm's heavy rain caused flooding, but prevention measures reduced damage to property. ![]() Typhoon Kai-tak (Vietnam) - November 200519 people died when Typhoon Kai-Tak struck Vietnam in late October 2005. ![]() Hurricane Wilma (Caribbean Sea) - October 200563 people died in the Caribbean, United States and Mexico in October 2006 when Hurricane Wilma struck. Subsequent flooding and landslides caused further disruption and damage. ![]() Hurricane Stan (Mexico) - October 2005Hurricane Stan caused devastation in Central America in October 2005. In Guatemala it was impossible for responders to take a full toll of the dead due to the impact of mudslides and landslides on several towns.
