Hurricane Jimena caused both mudslides and landslides along the western coast of Mexico in late August and early September 2009 and five people died. The storm's heavy rain caused widespread flooding and the peninsula of Baja California was among the worst affected; the powerful winds caused severe damage to several villages and towns.

Hurricane Paloma (Cuba) - November 2008

Hurricane Paloma forced thousands of people to evacuate in Cuba during November 2008. The powerful storm destroyed over 8000 homes on the island as its strong winds tore wooden homes apart. Despite the severe damage, no deaths were reported as a result of the storm.

Typhoon Jangmi (Taiwan) - September 2008
