The MIPAS spectroscopic database

ESA - ESRIN project

Support to MIPAS Level 2 products validation

A database of spectroscopic line parameters, optimized for use in MIPAS spectral region (from 685 to 2410 cm-1) was set up and maintained by Jean-Marie Flaud with support from Agnes Perrin, Marco Ridolfi and Massimo Carlotti, in the frame of the ESA MIPAS Quality Working Group (QWG) activities.

The latest release of the database dates back to 16 February 2015. The database has the same format of HITRAN 2004 and can be downloaded from this link:

Researchers using this line database or subsets of it are kindly requested to cite the following papers in their publications:

  1. Raspollini et al. 2021: “L2 ESA processor and auxiliary data for V8 full mission analysis of MIPAS measurements on ENVISAT” published in the Special Issue of Atmospheric Measurement Techniques entitled “MIPAS ESA Level 2 version 8 products: algorithms, product features and validation”, Editor(s): Helen Worden, Martin Riese, and Marco Ridolfi, https://amt.copernicus.org/articles/special_issue1094.html
  2. Perrin, A., Flaud, J.-M., Ridolfi, M., Vander Auwera, J., and Carlotti, M.: MIPAS database: new HNO3 line parameters at 7.6  µm validated with MIPAS satellite measurements, Atmos. Meas. Tech., 9, 2067–2076, https://doi.org/10.5194/amt-9-2067 2016, 2016.

The first paper describes the most recent updates of the database, tests / validation performed, etc. The second paper is more focused on the HNO3 line parameters at 7.6  µm that, for the first time were included in this database and validated against MIPAS measurements.

The following table summarizes the list of molecules and isotopologues included in the database hitran_mipas_pf4.45, conventions are the same as in the HITRAN database (see: https://hitran.org/).
