29 July 2008 (from AFP) - Typhoon Fung-wong slammed into Taiwan on Monday morning, sparking flash floods and forcing 1,200 people to evacuate from their homes across the island. The typhoon also caused an estimated 177 million Taiwan dollars (5.82 million US) in damages to agriculture, authorities said. Late Monday, Fung-wong made landfall in southeast China's Fujian and was expected to bring further heavy rains and strong winds to the coastal areas of the province early Tuesday, Chinese state media said. Three people went missing in the Philippines over the weekend when Fung-wong brushed past the northern tip of the main island of Luzon, causing widespread flooding, landslides and power outages, rescue officials said.
