The Quality Assurance Framework for Earth Observation (QA4EO) states "that all EO data and derived products have associated with them a documented and fully traceable quality indicator (QI)". In remote sensing, provision of uncertainty information is a fundamental aspect of indicating data quality: an uncertainty associated with a measurement is needed to allow proper interpretation and further application of data, both in scientific and decision-making contexts.
Workshop on Radiometric Calibration for European Optical Missions

The objectives of the workshop were to report on the status on the current calibration performance for the European Missions (Proba-V, Sentinel-2A, Sentinel-2B, Sentinel-3 OLCI and SLSTR, MERIS and ATSR), to compare the various approaches used by the different missions and to identify open points and issues. The discussions aimed at giving coherence between the various missions in term of radiometric calibration.

On 14 April 2010 the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjalla erupted and had been ejecting immense plumes of ash and sulphur into the atmosphere. The workshop was held in response to the emergency.
