Forest fires, believed to have been the result of arson, have spread across the Galicia region of Spain and affected northern parts of Portugal. Over a hundred fires have been reported, and over a dozen people have been killed.
This Envisat image acquired over the Iberian Peninsula shows fires still raging in the Galicia region and in the north-western part of Portugal. Smoke is visible in the left part of the image.
