Lisbon, Portugal This Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) multitemporal colour composite image is centred over the capital and largest city of Portugal, Lisbon (large bright area). Located in the west of the country, on the Atlantic coast at the point where the river Tagus (top centre) flows into the ocean. South of the city it is clearly visible how the city is connected to the far side of the Tagus river by the two bridges: the April 25 Bridge, inaugurated (as the Ponte Salazar) August 6, 1966, and later renamed after the date of the Carnation Revolution and the Vasco da Gama Bridge, inaugurated May 1998 and one of the biggest in the world. The image is made of three ERS-2 SAR PRI (Precision Radar Image) images acquired on different dates and assigning a colour (RGB) to each date of acquisition. Technical Information:
