This Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) multitemporal colour composite image is centred over the city of Hiroshima, Japan (bright area top centre).

The city is located on the broad, flat delta of the Ota River, which has 7 channel outlets dividing the city into six islands which project into Hiroshima Bay. The city is almost entirely flat and only slightly above sea level; only to the northwest and northeast of the city, there are some hills.

The mountains of are the most conspicuous feature of the topography in this image. Mountain ranges extend across the image from north to south, descending to the coast, forming bays and harbours. The image is made of three ERS-2 SAR PRI (Precision Radar Image) images acquired on different dates and assigning a colour (RGB) to each date of acquisition.
