ResourceSat-1 was the tenth satellite in the Indian Remote-Sensing Satellite (IRS) series. At the time of launch, ResourceSat-1 was ISRO's most advanced remote sensing satellite ever built. The mission was succeeded by IRS-R2/ResourceSat-2 when it was launched in 2011.

IRS-P6/ResourceSat-1 mission operations were conducted from the Spacecraft Control Centre in Bangalore, India.
