Krenitsyn Volcano, Russia: As seen by KOMPSAT-2
This KOMPSAT-2 satellite image, acquired on 21 June 2009, shows Krenitsyn Volcano, in Russia. Krenitsyn is located in the centre of Lake Kol'tsevoe, which was formed by a powerful eruption thousands of years ago. In this 4 m resolution multi-spectral image we can see ridges in the side of the volcano, formed by past eruptions. The volcano is situated on Onekotan Island, one of the Kuril Islands, an archipelago of volcanic islands in the Sea of Okhotsk.
