Hurricane Max, a powerful tropical cyclone, formed in September 2005 in the eastern Atlantic Ocean. Despite intensifying steadily as it tracked west-northwestward, Max eventually dissipated over the open waters of the Atlantic without making landfall on any significant landmass. The Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometre (MERIS) Level 1 image was acquired over the coasts of California, depicting Hurricane Max.
