Hurricane Gustav (Caribbean Sea), September 2008

In August 2008, Hurricane Gustav, a powerful tropical cyclone, wreaked havoc across the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. Quickly intensifying to Category 4 strength, it barreled toward the Louisiana coast, necessitating widespread evacuations and extensive preparations. Gustav ultimately struck southwest of New Orleans, inflicting significant damage and flooding along the Gulf Coast before dissipating over the central United States. Satellite images chronicle Gustav's progression, from its assault on the Caribbean Islands to its impact on New Orleans.
