Hurricane Emily (Mexico), July 2005

In July 2005, Hurricane Emily, a powerful tropical cyclone, formed in the Atlantic Ocean and quickly intensified to Category 5 strength. It made landfall twice, first in Grenada and then on the northeastern coast of Mexico, causing widespread destruction and prompting evacuations. The satellite images depict Emily southeast of Cuba after striking Mexico's coast near the Yucatan Peninsula, and over the Caribbean Sea southeast of Jamaica..
