Fires in Pisa (Italy), September 2018

These Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 images depict wildfires in central Italy, particularly on Mount Serra, where 600 hectares of woodland have been destroyed, leading to the evacuation of about 700 residents. The fires, ignited on September 24 2018, were exacerbated by strong winds, visible from a considerable distance. The imagery, presented in both natural and false colour, highlights the extensive damage, with burnt areas appearing black in false-colour images, and active fires evidenced by smoke plumes in natural-colour images.
