Eruption of Stromboli Volcano, 2014

This Landsat 8 satellite image captures the Stromboli volcano's eruption in 2014, visible at the upper centre with a burst of lava in the north. Below Stromboli, other Aeolian Islands such as Malfa, Lipari, and Ditella are visible on the left. Stromboli, located off Sicily’s north coast, is one of Italy’s three active volcanoes and is known for its almost continuous eruptions over the last 2,000 years. It typically exhibits explosive eruptions and occasional lava flows, with significant effusive eruptions recorded in recent years including 2002, 2003, 2007, 2013, and 2014.
