Collection Description

The Aeolus Level 2A (L2A) product (ALD_U_N_2A) provides supplementary binary geophysical data on cloud and aerosol optical properties retrieved from the Level 1B (L1B) data. The L2A products contains e.g. geolocated consolidated backscatter and extinction profiles, lidar ratio, scene classification information, and attenuated backscatter signals. These optical properties are provided from different retrieval algorithms (SCA: Standard Correct Algorithm, MLE: Maximum Likelihood Estimator, and AEL-PRO: Aeolus Profile Algorithm).

The L2A product is provided both on observation scale (~87 km) and on smaller group scales (horizontal accumulation of measurements between ~3 km and ~87 km) after applying scene classification. The product ALD_U_N_2A is available as binary data block file (.DBL) with an additional header file (.HDR).
