SEOM CAWA

Activity

Overview

The ESA SEOM (Scientific Exploitation of Operational Mission) funded CAWA (Advanced Clouds, Aerosols and WAter vapour products for Sentinel-3/OLCI) project aims to develop and improve the advanced atmospheric retrieval algorithms, developed for the Envisat/MERIS instrument and extend these to the Copernicus Sentinel-3/OLCI mission.

Within this project, atmospheric product datasets will be generated from the MERIS and EOS-Aqua/MODIS missions. This will further contribute to the understanding of the uncertainty estimation from the atmospheric correction on ESA's MERIS land and ocean products.

ESA's SEOM programme enables the science community to address many new avenues of scientific research that will be opened by free and open access to data from operational EO missions. Beside the established EO procedures, innovative approaches are necessary to exploit the data collected over the last 20 years of ERS-1, ERS-2 and Envisat missions. These activities have the potential to further strengthen the international leadership of European Earth observation research community by enabling them to extensively exploit observations from future European operational EO missions.
