Overview
FRM4SM Final Project Deliverables
FRM4SM ended in December 2024. All outcomes of this phase can be found in the following deliverables:
International Soil Moisture Network (ISMN) research and development
Research and developments regarding the quality control and flagging mechanisms applied to in situ measurements of the ISMN, as well the development of a data versioning system with DOI capability for the ISMN are described in the following deliverable:
Fiducial Reference Measurements
Protocols and procedures that have been developed to calculate (SI-)traceable FRM uncertainty budgets and to identify a set of reliable FRM “super-sites” from existing ISMN networks are described in the following deliverable:
Quality Assurance for Soil Moisture (QA4SM) development and evolution
The following deliverables document all improvements made to the QA4SM online validation platform (https://qa4sm.eu/) as well as contain a detailed software user manual:
- DT3-1 QA4SM Software User Manual
- DT3-2 QA4SM Service Impact Assessment Report
- DT4-2 QA4SM Evolution Test Plan
- DT4-3 QA4SM Verification Report
SMOS case studies
Validation case studies for the SMOS mission that have been conducted as part of the FRM4SM project are documented in the following deliverables:
- DT5-1 SMOS Validation and Committed Areas
- DT5-2 SMOS Validation in Organic Soils
- DT5-3 Sampling, Representativeness, and Scale Errors
Satellite soil moisture validation methodology evolution
Investigate potential new quality indicators (QIs) that are related to spatial land surface features; Test potential new QIs that are related to temporal soil moisture product characteristics; define intra-annual validation metrics for the Quality Assurance for the Soil Moisture (QA4SM) service; and investigate strategies to assess temporal product stability. Results are documented in the following deliverable:
