Minimize Grímsvötn Volcano eruption - Iceland, November 2004

Iceland, 05 November 2004 - On 01 November 2004 at 22:00pm (GMT), a release of overburden pressure triggered an eruption of Grímsvötn Volcano, in Iceland.

An intense swarm of volcanic earthquakes started three hours earlier with a continuous low frequency tremor, indicating an onset of an eruption. Weather conditions prohibited direct observations of the eruption of the remote volcano situated near the centre of Europe’s largest ice-cap, Vatnajökull.
