Proba-V Cloud Detection Round Robin Meeting

01-Mar - 01-Mar 2017

ESA/ESRIN, Frascati, Italy

Background

Round Robin exercise aimed at the inter-comparison of different cloud detection algorithms for Proba-V has been organised by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Belgian Science Policy Office (BELSPO). The Workshop is intended to provide to its participants a forum of discussion of the most recent cloud screening approaches and of the advantages these techniques may offer over the standard method in discriminating between different pixels classes for measurements from ESA optical sensor missions as Proba-V.

Objective and Expected Outcomes

Objective

  • To provide better understanding of the advantage and drawback of the various techniques for various clouds and surface conditions in the VNIR and SWIR domain for land and coastal water remote sensing.

Outcomes

  • The outcomes will be primarily recommendations to the European Space Agency on the potential new cloud detection algorithm for the Proba-V operational processing chain.
  • Results are expected to provide useful recommendations also for other optical missions like Sentinel-3 and Sentinel-2.

Venue

The Proba-V Cloud Detection Round Robin workshop will be at ESA's centre for Earth observation ESRIN, in Frascati (20 km south of Rome):
