SEOM CAWA:
CAWA Background
The ESA – SEOM funded CAWA project "Advanced Clouds, Aerosols and WAter vapour products for Sentinel-3/OLCI" aims to the development and improvement of advanced atmospheric retrieval algorithms, developed for the Envisat/MERIS instrument and extend these to the Sentinel-3/OLCI mission. Within this project atmospheric product datasets will be generated from the Envisat/MERIS as well as the EOS-Aqua/MODIS missions. This will further contribute to the understanding of the uncertainty estimation from the atmospheric correction on ESA's Envisat/MERIS land and ocean products.
ESA's Scientific Exploitation of Operational Mission (SEOM) programme enables the science community to address many new avenues of scientific research that will be opened by free and open access to data from operational EO missions. Beside the established EO procedures, innovative approaches are necessary to exploit the huge treasure, which was built over the last 20 years of ERS-1, 2 and Envisat missions. Those activities have the potential to further strengthen the international leadership of European Earth Observation research community by enabling them to extensively exploit observations from future European operational EO missions.

SEOM CAWA News08 September 2015Improvements of the TCWV algorithm have reduced the uncertainties in the products. The main changes are related to a more accurate description of the vertical temperature profile, provided by ERA-interim data files. The OLCI-like TCWV algorithm, considering 2 channels within the rst-H2O absorption band has been developed and tested by applying MODIS data.
