Location details

The event will be held at the National Maritime College of Ireland on the outskirts of Cork. More details on the College as well as maps showing its location are available on the National Maritime College of Ireland website.

 

Accomodation

No participation fees will be charged for the training. Participants are expected to finance their own travel and accommodation expenses.

ESA has negotiated special room rates in a city centre hotel located ten minutes walk from the city centre, for the duration of the course from 22 to 27 September 2013.

Free Bus Pick up in Cork City


Pick Up 1: Maldron Hotel - 8:00 am

Pick Up 2: Albert St, beside Port of Cork Building, opposite Jury's Inn - 8:10 am

A local contact person wearing an ESA T-shirt will be present at both pick up points on Monday 23rd to direct you to your bus. Please be on time as the bus will not wait.

Should you miss the bus, there is a public bus (223) from the Central Bus Station departing at 8:30 and arriving near the NMCI at 9:35. Otherwise you will need to take a taxi at a cost of approx. €30.

Bus Pick up at NMCI

The bus will leave the NMCI at 6:10 pm each day, with the exception of Friday when it will leave at 5:10pm. Passangers will be dropped off in Cork at a city centre location and at the Maldron Hotel.

On Monday the bus will travel directly from the NMCI to Blackrock Castle for the Icebreaker event. The bus will leave Blackrock Castle at 8:45pm and will drop passengers off at a city centre location and at the Maldron Hotel.

Ice Breaker

The Ice Breaker event will take place at Blackrock Castle Observatory on Monday 23rd from 6:30pm to 8:45pm. Finger food and drinks will be served, traditional Irish music courtesy of Torcán will soothe you after a day grappling with ocean salinity and you can enjoy the Cosmos at the Castle exhibition and chase comets in the interactive theatre. More information on the observatory can be found on their website.

Coffee and Lunch Breaks

  • To break up the day, coffee and tea breaks will be provided free or charge
  • Lunches will cost you 10 Euro a day, and the staff at the NMCI are pulling together a wide range of food to fuel your learning. You will need to buy lunch vouchers at the registration desk. You can buy 5 when registering on Monday and a receipt will be provided.

Pre Course (Informal) Event - Sunday Evening

  • If you are flying in on the afternoon of Sunday 22 September, and find yourself bored in your hotel room, why not join us for some snacks, bowling and banter in the Mardyke Entertainment Complex, starting at 18:30 on Sunday evening.

Social Dinner - Wednesday Evening

ESA is sponsoring dinner in Greene's Restaurant, McCurtain St. on Wednesday starting at 8:00pm. Meat, fish and vegetarian options are available.
