Minimize Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Dubai is a city in the United Arab Emirates. The emirate of Dubai is located on the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf and is one of the seven emirates that make up the country.

Dubai has recently attracted world attention through many innovative large construction projects. In recent years the city has become symbolic for its skyscrapers, in addition to ambitious development projects including man-made islands. This development has also attracted a large workforce to the city, largely coming from South Asia.

Dubai Landscape (Palm Island)
Overlay image (Before and After)

This Landsat 5 and Landsat 8 image comparison focused over the city of Dubai in a time window of 26 years; shows the innovative infrastructure made along the coast of the city with land reclamation and the development of the Palm Islands. This overlay window aims to show how the Palm Islands have developed, and how the city has grown. Another aim of these images is to promote the opportunity to download Landsat data through the ESA portals, where images captured every day are made available in near real time to the users and the scientific community.
