Quality issues in a few CryoSat NRT products over the Arctic

09 Feb 2021

As already noted by users and polar services, a few CryoSat Sea ice and ocean Near Real Time (NRT) products show quality issues over the Arctic domain (about 8% of products affected).

This is a well-known issue that is not related to the satellite’s instrument or the processing algorithm but to the sporadic use of a degraded orbit solution that creates discontinuities in computed sea level anomaly (SLA) and freeboard measurements. ESA, with the support of industry, has identified a way to fix this problem and is working on implementing the solution operationally. Users will be informed in the coming weeks once the activity is finalised.
