Riga, Latvia: As seen by CartoSat-1

This panchromatic satellite image, captured by CartoSat-1 on 20 September 2008, shows the city of Riga, Latvia, and its surrounding areas. At the centre of the image, the Daugava River flows prominently from the southeast to the northwest, emptying into the Gulf of Riga in the upper left corner.

The river serves as a natural divider, splitting the city into two distinct parts.
On the right bank (eastern side) lies Riga’s historic and administrative centre, home to the Old Town (Vecrīga) and numerous key government institutions. The left bank (western side) features a mix of residential neighborhoods, industrial areas, and modern commercial developments, with Riga International Airport situated toward the southwest.

To the northeast and east, the image highlights several notable lakes—Ķīšezers, Juglas ezers, and Baltezers.
