Oil Spill in Philippines, August 2006

In August 2006, the MT Solar 1 oil tanker sank in the Panay Gulf near Guimaras Island in the Philippines, releasing a significant oil spill. The spill spread quickly, devastating marine life, mangrove ecosystems, and local fishing communities. These Envisat satellite images captured in August and September illustrate the extent of the oil slick south of Guimaras Island.
