Lake Neuchâtel, Switzerland: As seen by IRS-1C

This IRS-1C image, acquired by the PAN instrument on 23 September 2000, shows the northeast part of Lake Neuchâtel in Switzerland.

Neuchâtel is the largest lake in Switzerland, covering an area 218 km2. Cities and towns are located around the lake, and the city of Neuchâtel is most notable in this 5 m resolution panchromatic image, stretching along the northwest bank.

Moving over to the northeast, we can see Broye Canal entering Lake Neuchâtel. Broye is connected to the neighbouring Lake Morat, part of which is visible on the right side of the scene.

Moving further away from the lake, forests and fields are visible throughout this fertile region.
