Groningen, the Netherlands: As seen by PlanetScope

This PlanetScope satellite image, acquired on 26 March 2020, shows part of Groningen Province in the Netherlands. The regions is famed for wide, open areas, and its agriculture, which is demonstrated in this 4 band multipspectral image dominated by fields. Approximately 80% of the province's land consists of agriculture, primarily potatoes and grains.

Darker areas in the image represent gaps in the fields, particualrly for cities and towns. The city of Groningen is visible in the northernmost break in the fields near the centre of the image. While the city looks relatively small compared to the surrounding fields in this wide scene, Groningen is one of the largest cities in the Netherlands.

At the top left corner of the image we can see the Wadden Sea on the coast, part of a long stretch of sand and mud flats that extend along the coast of the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany.
