Flood in Europe (Czechia), 1997

In 1997, the "Flood of the Century" devastated Central Europe, including extensive areas in Czechia. The floods resulted from relentless heavy rains that caused rivers to overflow, affecting multiple cities and leading to significant economic and environmental damage. These ERS-2 satellite images capture the extent of flooding across Czechia in July. The first three images, taken on July 12, illustrate the inundation along the Odra and Morava rivers, with visible flooding near towns like Ostrava and Prostejov. The final image from July 17 shows the swollen Morava River, with cloud cover near Prostejov and flooded regions near the Svitava and Dyje rivers' confluence. For more visual insights into how this flood impacted Poland and Germany, explore the articles: Flood in Europe (Poland) and Flood in Europe (Germany).
