In 1994, a severe storm struck the Eastern Alps, leading to widespread flooding in northern Italy. This storm delivered an exceptionally high volume of rainfall in a short period, overwhelming river systems and causing them to overflow. The towns along the Tanaro River, including Alessandria, Alba, and Asti, were among the most affected. The first image, acquired during the storm, displays the Po and Tanaro Rivers near Alessandria, Alba, and Pavia. The second image highlights the unusual width of the Po River by showing the flooded areas along these rivers. The third and fourth images depict the situation in the city of Alessandria along the Tanaro River before and during the flooding, respectively. The fifth image, acquired before the fourth, was annotated immediately upon receipt from the reception station. The sixth image combines Red, Green, and Blue channels. The final image, a Cyan image, was created using an artificial channel (Second Principal Component) and shows the flooded areas along the Tanaro River, covering a total area of 15.7 sq km.
