Esrange Space Centre, Sweden: As seen by ICEYE
This image, acquired by ICEYE on 9 August 2021, is a Strip Mode Ground Range Detected (GRD) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) view of the Esrange Space Centre in Swedish Lapland, northern Sweden.
Notable geographical features visible in the image include a large, unnamed, elongated lake located in the southern portion of the scene, along with numerous smaller circular and irregularly shaped lakes dispersed throughout the landscape and a river that flows east to west across the central part of the image.
The Esrange Space Centre, owned and operated by the Swedish Space Corporation (SSC), is situated above the Arctic Circle, approximately 40 kilometres east of the town of Kiruna. Esrange plays a vital role in Europe’s space endeavours, serving as a hub for sounding rocket launches, high-altitude balloon missions, satellite communications, and the development of orbital launch capabilities.
