The Dragon 3 2016 Symposium Final Results and Dragon 4 kick-off Symposium took place in Wuhan, China between the 4 - 8 July 2016.

The 2016 Symposium was part of the Dragon 3 Programme.

 

Objectives

Objectives for Dragon 3 Final Results Reporting included:

  • Report on the Dragon 3 project's final results after 4 years
  • Present results of the Dragon 3 research undertaken by young scientists
  • Publication of the Dragon 3 final results in the Symposium proceedings

Objectives for Dragon 4 projects' kick-off included:

  • Presentation of the new Dragon 4 cooperation projects

 

Dragon 3 Final Results Reporting

The 2016 Dragon Symposium served as the close of the Dragon 3 Cooperation (2012 to 2016). The Symposium was organised in six thematic workshops. Each thematic workshop included final results presentations by each of the projects as follows:

  • Outline the objectives of the research
  • Detail the ESA, TPM (third party mission) & Chinese EO (Earth observation) mission data acquired and investigated during the course of the Dragon 3 Programme
  • Detail the in-situ data measurements and requirements made and the joint field visits undertaken in P.R. China
  • Report on the projects' achievements, final results, conclusions and recommendations
  • Inform on papers published in scientific journals or conference proceedings
  • Report on the young scientists training
  • Outline academic exchange programmes developed

 

Dragon 4 Cooperation projects' kick off

The symposium also served as the formal kick off for Dragon 4 Cooperation projects. EO data delivery commenced in July 2016 and lasted for four years. The presentations were based on the successful projects from the Dragon 4 call for proposals. This call concerns the exploitation of Copernicus Sentinels, ESA, TPM and Chinese EO data for science and applications development. The Chinese and European Lead Investigators undertook the following:

  • Inform on the project's objectives
  • Detail the Copernicus Sentinels, ESA, Chinese and TPM data to be investigated
  • Inform on the project's schedule, planning and contribution of the partners
  • Indicate the level and training of young scientists on the project
  • Detail the in-situ data measurements and requirements
  • Provide details on expected field data collection campaigns and periods in P.R. China
  • Inform on the expected results
