SkyBee-1 and SkyBee-2 are advanced thermal infrared satellites that deliver precise data on land surface temperatures. Owned and developed by constellr, they form the HiVE constellation, which is currently under assessment as an ESA Third Party Mission.

  • 27 May 2026

As part of an announcement of opportunity, SkyBee data products are being disseminated to researchers for use in scientific and pre-operational development studies, following the approval of a Project Proposal by ESA and constellr. Thermal insights from constellr’s SkyBee satellites are set to support innovative research into urban heat mapping, drought assessment, environmental monitoring, and much more.

  • 26 May 2026

European start-ups and scale-ups are using data from ESA’s Third Party Missions (TPM) to advance their commercial ambitions, as demonstrated at ESA’s recent Earth Observation Commercialization Forum (CommEO).

This multispectral, 6-metre resolution SPOT-7 satellite image of Paris, France, captured on 24 April 2021, provides a detailed view of the city's complex urban fabric and geographical layout.

  • 13 May 2026

EarthCARE’s Cloud Profiling Radar (CPR) continues to provide data that help us observe the structure of clouds, providing observations that previously could not be obtained from space.

  • 13 May 2026

When cold polar air flows out over a relatively warm ocean, the strong temperature contrast rapidly organises shallow convective clouds into striking patterns across the sea. Known as marine cold-air outbreak (MCAO) clouds, these formations have long attracted attention in satellite imagery for their beautiful cloud streets extending from the sea-ice edge into the open ocean.

When Spanish technology company Dares Technology wanted to demonstrate the power of satellite radar for infrastructure monitoring, they chose one of the world's most famous sporting venues as their test case: the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in Madrid. Using high-resolution imagery from the PAZ satellite – available through ESA's Third Party Missions programme – the team tracked millimetre-scale movements in the stadium's structure, with the objective of identifying the origin of those displacements and exploring whether they could be associated with consolidation or subsidence following the recent renovation works. The study showcases the potential of space-based radar for infrastructure monitoring in complex urban environments.

  • 20 Apr 2026

Colima Volcano in Mexico is depicted in this SPOT-6 satellite image from 22 February 2014. The volcano is one of the most active in Mexico and recent decades have seen numerous minor eruptions, requiring evacuations of people in the area until the volcanic activity subsides. This image was acquired just a few days before one such eruption, on 28 February.

Thanks to EarthCARE’s vivid observations of a hurricane eye wall, we can better see how clouds reflect and trap heat not just from their top and bottom, but from their sides as well.

  • 14 Apr 2026

A European specialist in AI-enabled Earth observation technologies has made a novel finding that could change how it surveils suspicious maritime vessels from space. Using an AI-driven approach, Ubotica Technologies successfully identified ships from off-nadir imagery, captured when the satellite sensor is tilted to view a target from an angle, rather than pointing directly downwards.
