This KOMPSAT-2 satellite image was captured on 02 September 2011.
12 Aug 2026
This Biomass image from 22 June 2025 beautifully captures diverse agricultural landscapes intermixed with areas of outstanding natural beauty and ecological importance.
5 Aug 2026
This ALOS-1 satellite image from the AVNIR instrument, acquired on 7 September 2008, depicts the Mafia Archipelago, a cluster of islands in the Indian Ocean belonging to Tanzania.
4 Aug 2026
In July wildfires raging just west of Madrid have displaced tens of thousands of people. EarthCARE data was used to captured the fires on 24 July 2026 as they burned very close to ESA’s deep space ground station in Cebreros.

This image, acquired on 27 August 2021 by ICEYE, captures the western portion of the Galápagos Islands. As the largest island in the archipelago, Isabela Island dominates the left side and bottom of the frame, where two prominent circular volcanic calderas are clearly visible.
30 July 2026
These images from the Sentinel-2 satellite highlight ice loss in Alaska, where a small mountain known as Prow Knob, which was once encircled by the Alsek glacier, now stands alone in Alsek lake as a new island.
29 July 2026
These two images of the Ankanvanana River in Madagascar demonstrate the power of high-resolution satellite technology, specifically comparing panchromatic and multispectral data from the WorldView-3 sensor. The panchromatic imagery (left) offers the highest level of detail.
23 July 2026
Wildfire season is intensifying across Canada, with recent events in Ontario and the Northwest Territories spreading smoke thousands of miles across North America.
22 July 2026
This SPOT-7 satellite image, acquired on 25 February 2016, captures the dramatic, high-relief terrain of the Annapurna Massif in north-central Nepal. The scene is dominated by steep rock faces, expansive glaciers, and the high-altitude Annapurna Sanctuary.
16 July 2026
A new study combining cutting-edge laboratory experiments with geomagnetic data from ESA's Swarm satellites has mapped the distribution of iron in Earth's lower mantle for the first time – shedding new light on the deep processes that have shaped our planet over billions of years.

On 1 July, thunderstorms delayed Mexico's FIFA World Cup 2026 round-of-32 match against Ecuador. Just six hours earlier, EarthCARE had flown close to the stadium, observing the storms as they developed - and those radar observations were then assimilated into ECMWF forecasts in near real time.
8 July 2026
EarthCARE’s atmospheric lidar (ATLID) emits linearly polarised pulses of ultraviolet light at a wavelength of 355 nm, which are scattered by molecules, aerosol particles, ice crystals, or cloud droplets.
8 July 2026
Earth’s atmosphere is full of aerosols, and it’s important to be able to identify them.
2 July 2026
As climate change drives drier and hotter conditions, scientists have used SMOS data to build a soil moisture index that could serve as a tool to monitor long-term droughts globally.
24 June 2026
This CartoSat‑1 image of Belfast, Northern Ireland was acquired on 27 May 2012. It shows a satellite view of Belfast’s coastal urban area, capturing the dense city core, major port facilities, and the surrounding shoreline.

This GEOSAT-2 satellite image , acquired on 29 March 2020, shows the city of Cluj-Napoca in Romania. Cluj-Napoca is one of the largest cities in the country and is bisected by the Someșul Mic River. GEOSAT-2's 75 cm resolution imagery provides a detailed view of the city's layout and allows us to identify landmarks such as the white overal of the Cluj Arena on the south bank of the river and most of Cluj International Airport on the right edge of the scene.
