ICEYE Overview

ICEYE operates the world's first small SAR satellite constellation. Individual ICEYE SAR satellites form a constellation that enables unmatched imaging revisit rates on a global scale. The constellation provides different angle imaging multiple times a day for specified areas of interest. The constellation is constantly growing and will provide previously unavailable imaging capabilities and access, allowing quick tactical acquisitions as well as global revisit rates multiple times a day. Each satellite unit continues to introduce individual improvements on the system.

The initial ICEYE satellite mission was a proof-of-concept mission which focused on demonstrating the capabilities of small satellite synthetic-aperture radar technology. ICEYE-X1, the first SAR satellite under 100 kg, was successfully launched in January 2018 followed by ICEYE-X2 in December 2018. As of mid 2022, ICEYE has successfully launched 21 SAR satellites, 18 of which are available for the user; more are planned for 2022 and beyond ICEYE is continuously expanding its commercial SAR satellite constellation.

Several new satellites each year

ICEYE continues to grow its SAR satellite constellation each year. ICEYE has contracted launches for several new units over the coming years. The pace at which new satellites are launched is built around the market needs in both data and information services.

Orbit optimised for change detection

The initial ICEYE SAR satellite constellation is planned to be in orbit in several different inclinations and to provide daily interferometry and coherent change detection anywhere on Earth with a 24 hour ground track repeat.

SAR data

X-band radar imaging is available at 1 x 1 m ground resolution as Spot, at 3 x 3 m ground resolution as Strip, and at 15 x 15 m ground resolution as Scan. Products include SLC Complex and GRD Amplitude.

Mission Operations

ICEYE's mission is to enable everyone to make better decisions, in a variety of industries, based on timely and reliable Earth observation data.

ICEYE is building a constellation of SAR satellites to support a service level where any location on Earth can be reliably imaged multiple times a day. ICEYE is committed to providing this service level by further developing and updating the ICEYE SAR satellite constellation on a frequent basis with new satellite models.

ICEYE's living constellation ensures that there will always be a necessary amount of satellites available to provide reliable and timely data to customers. In addition to its satellites, ICEYE's constellation approach ensures a sufficient ground station access and data processing capabilities are in place to support this newly available data stream.

ICEYE's approach to build a constellation of SAR satellites is to seek out commercial launch missions, both from conventional and new launch providers, to support the required imaging service level for ICEYE.
