A detailed review of the most important events impacting the quality of the ERS-2 data delivered to the user is presented in this table below, in a chronological order from its launch on 16th November 1995. The highlighted events in the table represent the major changes related to the mission configuration:

  17-Jan-01        After the loss of 5 of the 6 onboard gyroscopes and aiming at preserving the last one for orbital manoeuvres, the Attitude and Orbit Control System (AOCS) is switched off, entering in the so-called Zero Gyro Mode (ZGM). Because of that, strongly degraded sigma nought is recorded, leading to discontinuous data dissemination. As consequence assimilation of the ECMWF was discontinued and afterward interrupted

  17-Jul-03       The Instrument Data Handling and Transmission (IDHT) system configuration is modified to permit the data transmission every time the satellite is within the visibility of an acquisition station. New ground stations are gradually added to maximize the data coverage. Currently, the operative ground stations are Beijing (CN), Chetumal (MX), Gatineau (CDN), Hobart (AUS), Kiruna (S), Maspalomas (E), Matera (I), McMurdo (Antarctica), Miami (US), Singapore, and West Freugh (UK).
