LPVE2018 - Workshop on Land Product Validation and Evolution

Following the successful LPVE 2014, the European Space Agency (ESA) is inviting scientists and Cal/Val experts to present the latest results from their on-going research at the 2018 Workshop on Land Product Validation and Evolution (LPVE 2018).

The abstract submission deadline has been extended to 30 November 2017.

Workshop - Uncertainties in Remote Sensing

Landsat 8 Thermal Infra-Red Scanner (TIRS) Anomaly

Image quality issues have been detected on the ESA Landsat 8 TIRS products which systematically contaminate the Band 10 and Band 11 TIRS data, the OLI data remains unaffected. Discussions are ongoing with the view to reprocess the Landsat 8 data with the latest software and supporting data to recover the affected products. SMOS level 2 sea surface salinity products v662 released to users

ESA would like to inform that SMOS level 2 sea surface salinity products version v662 are now available to the users.

The main changes introduced in the user product v662 are:

  • the replacement of sea surface salinity 1 field with the retrieved sea surface salinity based on an updated single roughness model and corrected for land-sea contamination effect
  • the replacement of sea surface salinity 2 field with the retrieved sea surface salinity based on an updated single roughness model
  • the replacement of sea surface salinity 3 field with the sea surface salinity anomaly (corrected for land-sea contamination) based on World Ocean Atlas climatology (WOA-2009)

Third International Ocean Colour Science (IOCS) meeting - 15 to 18 May 2017 - Lisbon, Portugal

The third International Ocean Colour Science (IOCS) meeting will take place from 15 to 18 May 2017 in Lisbon, Portugal, followed by two training events on 19 May 2017: a Copernicus marine data stream training event and a SeaDAS training event. The meeting is being convened by the International Ocean Colour Coordinating Group (IOCCG) in partnership with, and thanks to sponsorship from, EUMETSAT, ESA, the European Commission and NASA. Deadline to submit poster abstracts is 1 April 2017. 

Workshop on Vicarious Infrastructure for OCR (Ocean Colour Radiometry)

The ESA workshop "Options for future European satellite OCR (Ocean Colour Radiometry) vicarious adjustment infrastructure for the Sentinel-3 OLCI and Sentinel-2 MSI series", organised by the FRM4SOC team (Fiducial Reference Measurements for Satellite Ocean Colour) was held at ESRIN, Frascati from 21 to 23 February 2017.

Proba-V Collection 1 (C1) Re-processing Campaign Completed

The Proba-V full-mission re-processing campaign has been completed,

On-line access for the current Collection (C0) will be discontinued by end February 2017.

The new Collection 1 (C1) data set includes significant quality improvements with respect to the previous data version Collection 0 (C0):

  • Updated Cloud detection
  • Re-fined radiometric calibration parameters
  • Release of the intermediate L2a products
  • Meta data compliancy to Climate and Forecasting conventions (v1.6)

Proba-V Collection 1 dataset reprocessing on-going

The re-processing campaign of Proba-V Collection 1 products is proceeding, adopting the latest processor. Data from October 2013 up to September 2015 are now available to the user community. The re-processing campaign is expected to be finished by January/February 2017. Since 5 December 2016, the new processor was adopted for the near-real time processing.

Envisat – MIPAS Level 2 dataset re-processed with ML2PP version 7.03 is available online

15 September 2016

The Level 2 re-processing of the full MIPAS mission (from 01/07/2002 up to 08/04/2012, including the Full Resolution and the Optimized Resolution mission phases) has been completed with the ESA processor ML2PP version 7.03, and the data have been assessed with respect to their quality.

 

SMOS NRT L2 soil moisture Neural Network dataset via EUMETCast

The SMOS Level 2 Soil Moisture data available in NRT based on a neural network approach (Level-2 SM-NRT-NN product in netCDF format) are now available via EUMETCast, within four hours from sensing.
