Minimize Sensor Performance, Products and Algorithms

The  Sensor Performance, Products and Algorithms (SPPA) is the element of the ESA Earth Observation ground segment responsible and performing the following activities:

Algorithm Development

Developing and upgrading the data processing algorithms in order to meet mission requirements and user needs.

Cal/Val 

Calibrating the sensors (through the update of on-board and on-ground configuration data) in order to meet product quality requirements.

Validating the generated products assessing, by independent means, the  quality  of  the  generated EO data  products.

Routine Quality Control

Monitoring routinely the status of the  spacecraft  (payload  and  platform) and  to check if the derived products meet the quality requirements along mission life-time.

The activities related to the SPPA constitute a long and continuous process involving a number of various actors with different competencies and objectives.

LPVE2018 - Workshop on Land Product Validation and Evolution

10 November 2017

Following the successful LPVE 2014, the European Space Agency (ESA) is inviting scientists and Cal/Val experts to present the latest results from their on-going research at the 2018 Workshop on Land Product Validation and Evolution (LPVE 2018).

The abstract submission deadline has been extended to 30 November 2017.

Workshop - Uncertainties in Remote Sensing

The Uncertainties in Remote Sensing workshop is scheduled to be held at ESA's centre for Earth Observation (ESRIN) in Frascati, Italy, on 24 and 25 October 2017.

Those wishing to attend the workshop are kindly requested to register by 16 October 2017.

Landsat 8 Thermal Infra-Red Scanner (TIRS) Anomaly

Image quality issues have been detected on the ESA Landsat 8 TIRS products which systematically contaminate the Band 10 and Band 11 TIRS data, the OLI data remains unaffected. Discussions are ongoing with the view to reprocess the Landsat 8 data with the latest software and supporting data to recover the affected products.
