Sentinel Atmospheric Toolbox
The Atmospheric Sentinel Toolbox, which is based on the Basic Envisat Atmospheric Toolbox project (BEAT), provides scientists with tools for ingesting, processing, and analyzing atmospheric remote sensing data.
The toolbox consists of a set of libraries, command line tools, and interfaces to IDL, MATLAB, Fortran, and Python that allow you to access data from a range of atmospheric instrument product files. The VISAN package contains an application that can be used to visualise and analyse the data that you retrieve using the BEAT interface.
The current primary instruments supported by the toolbox are GOMOS, MIPAS, and SCIAMACHY (ENVISAT), GOME (ERS-2), OMI, TES and MLS (Aura), and GOME-2 and IASI (MetOp).
The toolbox is provided as Open Source Software, enabling user community participation in further development and quality improvement.

Open Source Development
The Sentinel Toolboxes and full source code is distributed freely under the GNU GPL license.
Open source makes software inherently independent of specific vendors, programmers and suppliers. The software can be freely distributed and shared by large communities including the source code and the right to modify it. This ensures that there isn't a single entity on which the future of the software depends on and allows for unlimited improvements and tuning of the quality and functionality of the software.
As open source, future evolution and growth of the toolboxes will be possible by the community of users and developers that contribute back to the project.
