With around 90% of world trade carried by ships, making sure a vessel follows the fastest route has clear economic benefits. By merging measurements from different satellites, ESA is providing key information on ocean currents, which is not only making shipping more efficient but is also helping to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

ESA is pleased to announce that SAR data from the ERS-1 and the ERS-2 missions have been made available for direct download via the (A)SAR On-The-Fly (OTF) service.
With this release, users now have access to (A)SAR level 1 products from both ERS missions and from Envisat, covering Image Mode (IMS, IMP), Wide Swath (WSS) and Alternating Polarisation (APP, APS). All data are delivered as standard scenes in Envisat format.

Following major development activities, which caused data access unavailability over the last months, ESA has now made all of its archived data from the PALSAR instrument available again. The new ground segment architecture allows for faster data access, as data requested by the user will be provided out of the archive and processed "on the fly". No more manual intervention for processing will be necessary on ESA's side. WB1 PALSAR data will become available in the next months.
The Open Science Earth Observation (OSEO) call aims to foster scientific and applications uptake of full archives of EO data, by offering third party services which exploit state of the art ICT.
