Aeolus laser shines light on wind

Following the launch of Aeolus on 22 August, this extraordinary satellite's instrument has been turned on and is now emitting pulses of ultraviolet light from its laser, which is fundamental to measuring Earth's wind. And, this remarkable mission has also already returned a tantalising glimpse of the data it will provide.

OADS - OTF maintenance on 4 September 2018

Due to a scheduled maintenance, access to the OADS-OTF online dissemination systems for ALOS PALSAR data and the Third Party Missions (TPM) datasets will be unavailable on Tuesday 4 September 2018 during the following time frames:

  • From 09:00 to 11:00 CEST - ALOS PALSAR data dissemination
  • From 11:00 to 13:00 CEST - TPM data dissemination.

Summer brown

With much of Europe recently subjected to a prolonged heatwave and lack of rain, brown was certainly the trending colour this summer. While cooler air and rain have now returned to northwest Europe, turning some of the landscape back to the more usual hues of green, these satellite images show how the hot dry weather took its toll on vegetation.

Swarm Bravo: VFM data gap from 19 to 27 August 2018

Due to a science packet corruption which occurred on the VFM (Vector Field Magnetometer) on board Swarm Bravo, the VFM science data (at 50 Hz rate) were not received from approximately 10:00 UTC on 19 August to 07:10 UTC on 27 August 2018 when the VFM was restarted.

GOSAT - NRT product distribution resumed

The GOSAT TANSO NRT products 'FTS_SPOD_X' and 'FTS_SPON_X' are being distributed again on the ESA server, following the interruption due to a satellite inclination control manoeuvre and lunar eclipse operation phase (now completed) as per our news of 3 August 2018.

Wind mission ready for next phase
