The fourth Scientific Symposium - jointly hosted by ESA and Chalmers University of Technology meant to cover both the ERS and ENVISAT missions and announced on these pages at earlier stages is now imminent. The Gothenburg event, Sweden, will be held from 16 to 20 October 2000. The symposium is an illustration of the ESA support to the development of Earth Observation along three main three lines: Science & Methodology, Development of Applications / Public Services and Development of the commercial market for Earth Observation-based Services.

Baseline information (precise satellite positioning) for all ERS-2 orbits since 26001(10 April 2000) up to the ones acquired the day before the extraction of the file can now be obtained daily (day_base.exe in DESCW Update page). N.B. The weekly inventory information (data.exe in DESCW update page) contains the same information, but updated at a lower frequency.

The verification and validation of each one of the Envisat Ground Segment components and interfaces started with the verification (compatibility tests) of the major interfaces.
Over 60 scientists are attending the first Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) Research Announcement of Opportunity Workshop at CNR Headquarters in Bologna, starting 17 May 2000.

The AVHRR products catalogue is available again on the ESA multi-mission interactive catalogue interface. Data covers all acquisitions of the AVHRR instrument over Europe since 1982 to-day. The missions covered are NOAA n.7,9,10,11,12,14 and 15. Quicklooks can also be displayed.Open the Multi-mission Interactive Catalogue.
Three technical novelties on the ESA Multi-Mission Product Catalogue: Upgrade of the java version (2.2), introduction of a non-java version, introduction for 'Windows 95 and 98 NT' users of an automatic browser configuration procedure (support for Swing applets).

A revised version of the Landsat Thematic Mapper Products Format Definition has been issued. It describes the standards used by ESA for the distribution of the Thematic Mapper instrument CCT products. Both full text and document ordering are available.
