The ESA/EC RUS (Research and User Support for the Sentinel Core Products) service aims at fostering the handling of Sentinel data and offers training activities, tailored for users at any level of proficiency. Monthly webinars are regularly designed and organised to introduce the basics for downloading, visualizing, analyzing and processing Sentinel data using Open Source Toolboxes.
The next webinar will illustrate the use of Sentinel-2 for burned area mapping. It will be held on Tuesday, 05 December 2017, at 15:00 CET.

Following the successful LPVE 2014, the European Space Agency (ESA) is inviting scientists and Cal/Val experts to present the latest results from their on-going research at the 2018 Workshop on Land Product Validation and Evolution (LPVE 2018).
The abstract submission deadline has been extended to 30 November 2017.

Combining images captured by the Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission and the US Landsat-8 satellite between October 2015 and the end of 2016, this land-cover classification map shows different crops across Germany. A total of 2.2 TB of data were used to generate the map, which distinguishes between 21 land cover classes and includes 15 specific crop types.

Wildfires have broken out across southern Europe as a heatwave grips the region. This animation created using images from the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites show the live blaze and aftermath of wildfires that devastated an area about 35 km northeast of Athens, Greece, in mid-August.

Greenland is usually associated with ice and snow, but the country has fallen victim to a large wildfire that has been raging since the end of July. The fire was imaged by the Copernicus Sentinel-2A satellite on 8 August 2017. The satellite carries a high-resolution multispectral camera working in 13 wavelength bands. The animation uses different combinations of these bands to show the fire in natural colour, to highlight the flames and to show the burnt areas.
14 July 2017
With Italy suffering high temperatures and drought, wildfires have broken out including blazes that are ravaging the slopes of Mount Vesuvius near Naples. Using images taken by the Copernicus Sentinel-2B satellite on 12 July 2017, the animation combines different sensor bands to highlight the numerous separate fires around this iconic volcano and the smoke billowing over the surrounding area.

With the Sentinel-2B satellite close to beginning its working life in orbit, this latest Copernicus satellite has linked up to Alphasat by laser, across almost 36,000 km of space, to deliver images of Earth just moments after they were captured.

Last year, the Sentinel-2A satellite captured an intense algal bloom very close to the Belgian coast. The high-resolution capabilities of Sentinel-2's main instrument are allowing scientists to monitor algae blooms in areas previously not possible to observe with satellites.
Scientists observed the bleaching of Australia's Great Barrier Reef early this year using satellite images. While capturing these events from space has been difficult in the past, Sentinel-2's frequent revisits and its resolution makes it possible.

This year's Copernicus Masters competition is now open. With prizes totalling more than €1.5 million, the chance to design and launch a small satellite mission and much more, Europe's leading competition for the novel use of Earth observation has never been so impressive.
04 April 2017
A new processing tool has been developed to bundle information contained in large amounts of satellite data, paving the way for the wealth of Copernicus Sentinel satellite data to be more easily incorporated into online environment-monitoring services.
24 March 2017
With the pair of Sentinel-2 satellites now in orbit, users are looking ahead to mapping global land cover at 10 m resolution.

The notion of glitter might appear as somewhat frivolous, but scientists are using Sun glitter in images from the Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission to map the motion of the sea surface.
Just over a week after being lofted into orbit, the European Union's Sentinel-2B satellite delivered its first images of Earth, offering a glimpse of the 'colour vision' it will provide for the Copernicus environmental monitoring programme.
09 March 2017
Following three days of intensive work, mission control today declared the newly launched Sentinel-2B satellite fit and ready for commissioning.
07 March 2017
The ESA-developed Sentinel-2B satellite was launched on 07 March, doubling the coverage of high-resolution optical imaging in the Sentinel-2 mission for the European Union Copernicus environmental monitoring system.
