United Nations Climate Change Conference COP24
On the 3 December 2018, the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP24 officially started in the city of Katowice, southern Poland. The city will be host to about 20,000 participants from 190 countries, from politicians to scientists and business representatives.
The conference's most important goal is to refine and finalize the rules for implementation of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change, of which the first steps were taken last year at COP23 in Bonn, Germany.
The final Paris Agreement rulebook should define for the agreeing countries on how to measure and report greenhouse gas emissions and to raise their ambition to keep the global warming well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
