Envisat - MERIS FRS L1 data available on MERCI

20 December 2013

Following the release of the Envisat MERIS Level 1 Full Resolution Full Swath data (MER_FRS_1P) online via FTP, the products are now also retrievable via HTTP through the MERIS MERCI system (see related news of 20 November 2013).

The MERIS MERCI catalogue and inventory provides services for accessing the MERIS FRS Level 1 data products allowing area and time extraction as well as visualisation of the list of available products including related quick looks. Bulk download of selected files is also possible.

The MERCI file archive contains the full bulk processed MERIS FRS Level 1 dataset covering the period from 17 May 2002 to 08 April 2012, i.e. all available MERIS Full Resolution data acquired throughout the entire mission.

During the Envisat mission, acquisition of MERIS Full Resolution data was subject to specific planning based on on-demand ordering and coverage of specific areas according to operational recommendations and constraints.

For this reason there is not a complete global MERIS FRS coverage in line with the MERIS Reduced Resolution (RR) data for which predefined, systematic planning and acquisitions were performed.

Generation and publication of MERIS FRS density maps is foreseen to give the users a better overview of the actual coverage.

Data Access

Users already registered for the MERIS FRS FTP service can access both the above listed HTTP and FTP servers with the previously provided user ID and password.

For new users, access to the bulk processed FRS Level 1 dataset via HTTP and FTP is provided upon Fast Registration via the My Earthnet area. Full Proposal is required for delivery on media/NAS disk in case of large data requests.

Regular MERIS FR/FRS users are reminded that the MERIS Full Resolution Level 1 on demand production service is now being gradually phased out, and they are invited to make use of the bulk processed on-line data instead.
