Swarm Operational News
We are pleased to announce the new release of magnetic field data recorded by Fluxgate magnetometers operating on-board ESA's CryoSat mission.
01 July 2019
Starting from the week 8-14 April, a new version of the Swarm Quality Report will be introduced. The improvements of this new version consist in a shorter description of all the data quality controls with the aim to report only the most significant information.
17 June 2019
Due to a test performed on-board Swarm Alpha from 10 to 12 June 2019, the telemetry data retrieved from this spacecraft was not nominal.
10 June 2019
Due to an issue with the Electric Field Instrument on-board Swarm Charlie, no Langmuir Probe data are available from 2 June 2019 at 00:06 UTC to 4 June at 11:57 UTC.
We inform the Swarm users that from 13 to 20 May 2019, the ASM (Absolute Scalar Magnetometer) instrument on board Swarm Alpha was commanded in burst mode.
17 May 2019
We would like to inform Swarm users that an EFI/TII gain calibration map has been executed on 12 May 2019 onboard Swarm Alpha.
06 May 2019
We would like to inform Swarm users that an on-board anomaly occurring on Swarm Charlie caused data gaps on all L0, L1A and L1B data products from 28 April 2019 onwards.
An orbit collision avoidance manoeuvre was performed on Swarm Bravo on 2 April 2019 at 00:23 UTC for a duration of 64 seconds, equivalent to a Delta V of 0.015 m/s.
We would like to inform Swarm users that from 12 December 2018, at 13:34:56 UTC and 18 December 2018, at 12:43:30 UTC, the attitude information of the Star Tracker instruments on board the Swarm Alpha and Charlie satellites, respectively, are provided at 2 Hz rate, instead of the previous 1 Hz.
The ESA Swarm Dissemination Server is now also hosting a mirror of the CASSIOPE/e-POP full data archive (past and current observations) in native format. These products are freely available under the /#CASSIOPE_e-POP directory by FTP/HTTPS anonymous browsing. Read a full description of the e-POP data set.
25 February 2019
A new Swarm Level 2 data product was released on 20 February 2019. It contains several time series that characterize the plasma density and plasma irregularity along the Swarm orbits, separately calculated for each of the three satellites.
11 February 2019
We inform the Swarm users that on 31 January 2019 at 15:22 UTC, Swarm B experienced a SEFI (Single Event Functional Interrupt) event. As a consequence, the dump of this packet store was aborted autonomously.
With reference to the news published on 29 August 2018, we inform the Swarm users that the Swarm Bravo magnetic field data from 19 to 28 August 2018 have been generated and now can be found in the ESA ftp server.
29 January 2019
We inform the Swarm users that from 21 to 28 January 2019, the ASM (Absolute Scalar Magnetometer) instrument on board Swarm Bravo was commanded in burst mode. Thus, the magnetic field intensity derived from the ASM and stored in MAGB_LR_1B and MAGB_CA_1B products is set to zero from 21 January 2019, at 07:36 UTC to 28 January 2019 at 06:54:23 UTC.
We would like to inform Swarm data users that from 17 October 2018, at 08:24:51 UTC, the attitude information of the Star Tracker instrument on board Swarm Bravo is provided at 2 Hz rate, instead of the previous 1 Hz.
02 January 2019
Electric Field Instrument (EFI) LP and LPI data measured by Swarm Alpha are not available on 18 December 2018. The reason for this data gap is still under investigation.
02 January 2019
Due to a science packet corruption which occurred on the VFM (Vector Field Magnetometer) on board Swarm Alpha, the VFM science data (at 50 Hz rate) were not received from 18 December 2018 at around 18:13 UTC to 19 December 2018 at 16:46 UTC when the VFM was restarted. As a consequence, no L1B VFM data are available for this time window.
19 December 2018
We inform the Swarm users that an issue was registered on-board Swarm Bravo during the EFI-TII Gain Correction Map application. This issue caused a data gap in EFI data from 16 October 2018 13:33:57 UTC to 17 October 2018 08:28:17 UTC
20 November 2018
With reference to the news published on 04 May 2017, we inform the Swarm users that the Swarm Alpha MAGx_LR_1B data from 29 April to 01 May 2017 have been regenerated and now can be found in the ESA FTP server.
20 November 2018
With reference to the news published on 14 September 2017, we inform the Swarm users that the Swarm Bravo MAGx_LR_1B data from 11 to 13 September 2017 have been generated and now can be found in the ESA FTP server.
