The main SMOS Land Applications workshop's objectives were:

  • Provide the SMOS science communities with details on the latest Level 2 soil moisture algorithm, and plans for future algorithm developments.
  • Summarize the status of the on-going and completed Cal / Val activities; dentify potential data quality problems including systematic uncertainties
  • Provide a forum for discussion on future soil moisture algorithm developments and improvements
  • Present and discuss the latest developments related to SMOS derived vegetation products and corresponding applications
  • Present and discuss novel products for land applications, e.g. freeze / thaw detection, wetland monitoring, etc.
