SMOS and Proba-2 successfully lofted into orbit

The second satellite in ESA's Earth Explorer series - the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission - and the second demonstration satellite under ESA's Project for Onboard Autonomy (Proba-2) were launched into orbit last night from northern Russia.

Result from survey on Earth Science Data Long Term Preservation

In the context of the European strategy for Long-Term EO Data Preservation and as partner of the European Union's FP7 PARSE.Insight project, ESA opened a public consultation on the long-term preservation of environmental data.
The initiative was issued in May 2009. We received a very positive feedback from the data user community who very actively participated.

Deadline for abstract submissions for the ESA Living Planet Symposium is 15 November 2009.

The 2010 Symposium follows the previous successful ENVISAT Symposia in Montreux (2007), Salzburg (2004), Gothenburg (2000), Florence (1997), Hamburg (1993) and Cannes (1992). The event will be held in Bergen, Norway from 28 June to 2 July 2010.

Collision avoidance manoeuvre on 4 November 2009

Following a warning recently issued by the US' Joint Space Operations Center, an Envisat emergency collision avoidance manoeuvre has been successfully executed on 4 November, from 07:51 to 09:32 UTC.

AATSR L2P Processor update

05 November 2009

An updated version of the AATSR L2P processor is being introduced on Thursday, 5th November, starting with products from absolute orbit number 40171 inclusive. This version of the processor changes the order of two records in the metadata (FR_Revision_History and FR_Last_revision_date are swapped), and no changes are introduced in the L2P products themselves.

The highly indented and ruggedly mountainous coast of eastern Greenland, one of the most isolated habitations in the world, is featured in this Envisat image. Covering more than 2 000 000 sq km, Greenland is the world's largest island. This image was created by combining three Envisat ASAR acquisitions (23 November 2008, 28 December 2008 and 1 February 2009) taken over the same area.

3rd ALOS Joint PI Symposium

9 November 2009 - 13 November 2009

The Symposium will take place in Hawai'i and is hosted by the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Alaska Satellite Facility (ASF). The event is open to accepted PIs, Co-Is, and representatives of the four Data Nodes (AADN, JAXA, ESA, GA) and the Asian sub-node: Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA).

The abstract submission deadline has passed, however it is still possible to submit an abstract online.

A new release of EOLI-SA (v 6.2.4) will be available for download on the EOLI-SA web pages starting from 10 November 2009 PM.
From then on, users will be requested to perform the update in order to continue working with EOLI-SA.
